Team Canada Sets Target For Plzen - 2009 Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 November 2007

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) and Team Canada men’s ball hockey team is proud to announce the first of its scheduled camps for 2008. It will be taking place in Ontario on April 25-27, 2008, in Mississauga, Ontario, at the Cawthra Twin rinks complex. Please see the attached form to apply or call the CBHA office for information if you are interested.

These National team camps are designed to give high level men’s ball hockey players from across Canada a chance to make Team Canada 2009. We are also proud to announce that these camps will cost between $75-95, for players across the country. (These costs will vary across Canada based on travel) The Ontario Camp will be offered to players at $75 per player.

Our National Team program has won the last four World Championships. However, in 2009 the World Championships will be held in the hockey hotbed of Plzen, Czech Republic. This venue will be rocking with the great hockey fans of Czechia. This World tourney will pose a great challenge for any top ball hockey player because our arch rival the Czech Republic will be in top form to try and knock us off our perch.

We offer the challenge and opportunity to players across Canada to see if they have what it takes to make our National Team. We have announced our first camp in Ontario. But will hopefully run a few more across the country. Below you will find a synopsis of the scouting and camp schedule for our National Team in 2008. Head Coach George Gortsos will be running camps or scouting the following 2008 events:

Camps in Bold

April 25 – 27, 2008 – Ontario Regional Camp – Mississauga, Ontario

May 30 - June 1 - British Columbia Regional Camp

June 23-28, 2008 – World Junior Championships – St. Johns, Newfoundland

June 2008 – TBA – Quebec Regional Camp – Montreal, Quebec

July 2008 – TBA – Western Regional Camp – Edmonton, Alberta

July 25-27, 2008 – Eastern Men’s B & C Regionals – Halifax, Nova Scotia

August 4-9, 2008 – Men’s A National Championships – Vancouver, BC

August 24-28, 2008 – Canadian Military National Championships – Borden, Ontario

At the end of these camps and scouting of National & Regional events. The best 60 ball hockey players in the country will be invited to attend final camp in February 2009. At that time these players will compete for the 24 spots on our National Team vying for its 5th World Championship in a row, in Plzen.

Our National Team is open to the best players in the country. We pride ourselves on our continual work to stay on top and chase gold for Canada. And our never ending search for talent to keep us there. It is our hope that we see you sometime in 2008, and have a chance to assess your talents. And to see if you have what it takes to be one of our final 24 players going across the Atlantic Ocean and into the heart of Europe. To defend our crown.
